Tim Ussher has spent his entire career of over thirty years as a 'buyer', a profession now usually called procurement. He has led thousands of tenders, meetings and negotiations with suppliers and sellers across many industries, awarding contracts and securing deals for billions of pounds' worth of business. For the last twenty-five years he has divided his time between establishing and leading group procurement functions for top FTSE corporations, and acting as a senior individual consultant, reviewing, fixing and setting up procurement teams. He is a past winner of the prestigious Purchasing and Supply Chain Professional of the Year award from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, which is the procurement industry's top individual award. He has also won awards for Most Improved Purchasing Operation and for Consultancy Buyer of the Year, and with his teams has been runner-up for several other awards. Tim began buying for a large retail chain with 1,400 stores, moved to cash and carry and then over to manufacturing. He went on to be Chief Procurement Officer (and Group Procurement Director) for companies including BSkyB television and Virgin Media, managing UK-based procurement teams of 75 buying staff. Superb, fun, no-nonsense 'how to sell to Buyers' book, from a top Buyer - highly recommend!

Probably the best sales book I've read surprisingly, now it seems obvious to get your how to sell tips from a CPO / Buyer, that's who you have to win the contracts and orders from! Not found a selling book from a Buyer before so at last... great!
As Lord Sugar's endorsement (impressive) says, straight talking and clear advice, an easy read and I love the fun colour cartoons with each of the key messages, helps to break up the read.
Tim Ussher is clearly a seasoned and highly thought of procurement professional and hits the right balance of anecdotal stories, hard facts and tips, and a light hearted chatty writing style.
Highly recommend this to sellers and suppliers pitching to Buyers, follow the advice and there's no doubt you'll have a much better chance to win more contracts from these Buyers.

This is a really easy, light hearted read, but packed with advice and tips on how to impress the Buyers.
The author has a nice writing style and talks to you, advises you, doesn’t preach or teach which I like.
A lot of the tips you kind of already know, but don’t do, so it’s a great reminder on how to sharpen up your selling game and improve your chances of winning orders.
The cartoons are unique and fun and help put across the top tips. It’s also unique that we have a Buyer telling sales people what they want and how to improve selling techniques which is great, from the horses mouth!
Lord Sugar is a highly thought of and successful businessman, I can see why this book has his valuable endorsement – recommend to anyone in business.

This book has really useful tips and advice on winning over corporate buyers, I thought I had most of it covered but this gave me additional tips I need to do and a good reminder on other things, l recommend this for new and already great sales people. Landscape architect Lake Douglas employs written accounts, archival data, historic photographs, lithographs, maps, and city planning documents -- many of which have never before been published -- to explore public and private outdoor spaces in New Orleans and those who shaped them. Douglas presents this "beautiful and imposing" city as a work of art crafted by numerous influences. His survey from the colonial period to the twentieth century finds that geography, climate, and, above all, the multicultural character of its residents have made New Orleans unique in American landscape design history. French and Spanish settlers, Africans and Native Americans, as well as immigrants from Germany, Ireland, Italy, and other parts of the world all participated in creating this community's unique public and private landscapes. Places such as Congo Square, Audubon Park, the river levees, and "neutral grounds" -- local residents' own term for medians -- together with ordinary residential gardens are all testaments to the city's international imprint.

Douglas identifies five types of public and private designed landscapes in New Orleans: squares, linear open spaces, urban parks, commercial pleasure gardens, and domestic gardens. Discussing their design, function, and content, he shows how specific examples of each contribute to the city's unique character and also fit within the larger context of American landscape design history. Each type has its own complexion and reflects the influence of those who occupied it. Though New Orleanians lived in strata according to language, cultural identity, economics, and race, they found common ground, literally, in their community's landscapes.

Douglas's sweeping study, illustrated with over 90 color and black-and-white images, includes an exploration of archival horticultural books, almanacs, and periodicals; information about laborers who actually built landscapes; details of horticultural commerce, services, and marketing materials; and an exhaustive inventory of plants grown in New Orleans for agricultural, medicinal, and ornamental uses.

Public Spaces, Private Gardens provides an informative look at two hundred years of the designed landscapes and horticulture of New Orleans and a fresh perspective on one of America's most interesting and historic cities.

This book has been sorely needed for decades. Lake Douglas has integrated garden design and horticulture in a carefully researched and written book.
For those of us interested in plants used in the early gardens of Louisiana, the book is especially welcomed. What a labor of love, thank you and kudos to
the author.

A Very Thorough Study!

It is a daunting study - very thorough. The book demands that readers have good eyesight because the print is of necessity very small to fit all that research into one book. The photos are also very small and do not show the lushness of our tropical materials. I love the inclusion of gardening and plant choice - New Orleans, Louisiana, is such a different area for growing compared with other portions of the United States. "Public Spaces" is exceedingly detailed and thus requires concentration to read and absorb.

Enjoyable and informative book

This book is an interesting read about life in Sparta. It is a chapter book written as a story but full of historical information about how the ancients lived. We've been enjoying it as a supplement to our study of Ancient Greece and my girls always ask for another chapter.

Good for bringing kids inside an ancient culture

My 7YO enjoys this story and has learned a lot about life in ancient Sparta, as well as its relationship with Athens, how they viewed luxuries as a culture, and social concepts they embraced that are outside our own paradigm. This text does a good job of providing a basic understanding of Sparta and its values without including anything really graphic or questionable, so it's good for younger readers.
