Sound teaching in a refreshing, enlightening, and empowering book

This book reminded me of the book The Facebook Effect. The Facebook Effect was a book on the history of Facebook that was encouraged and supported by the founder of Facebook. As a person who loves Facebook I just loved every one of the hundreds of pages. This book was the same for me. I love Hillsong church and I love Brian and Bobbie Houston and reading all about Brian was fascinating to me.

This book has many faith lessons in it. It has many scripture accounts and much of the book is a history of Hillsong church, not for the sake of a history lesson as such, but each story told by Brian PERFECTLY illustrates the faith lesson he is teaching at the time.

It is so refreshing to hear such a well accomplished pastor who has pioneered multi campus churches in Australia and around the world, speak on the subject of pioneering. It is exciting to hear Brian share that we all need to find our purpose in this world and excel in it.

I am sure that you will find this book refreshing, enlightening, empowering and a good background story of the history of one of the most popular churches in the world.

One of the favourite things I like about an author is when they tell personal stories. The level of transparency and honesty that Brian shares with is outstanding. To hear that one of your hero's went through suffering and trauma encourages you to press on when things are going a bit hard for you too. I am sure that Bran could have made his points he was making without being so transparent but that obviously isn't his style of sharing truths.

I have to confess, I have only heard Brian preach four times and have not been to Hillsong more than twenty times in my life. Most of my knowledge of the character of Brian and Bobby came through two prophetic words the Lord had me do for them and send to them on CD. I will never ever forget what God said about those two.

Honest, Inspiring, Love and Grace in action

I absolutely loved this book. Reading into the first few chapters, I knew this is a book that I would definitely give to anyone seeking guidance on how to live life on the faith lane.
Pastor Brian's honesty, sincerity and humility to glorify God not only in his ups, but more so in the most difficult periods of his life, is such a great reminder of God carrying us through. Exposing his heart during those vulnerable moments... it taught me so much of God's heart for all of us. We never come second when we put God first!

This book is gold! Loved every page! Highly recommended!

About the Author
Dale Shipley, Ed.D., was Director of the School of Early Childhood Education at Ryerson University, Toronto, from 2001 to 2006. Dale has had a varied career in the education sector, beginning as a teacher in the high schools of Ontario and England, and continuing for thirteen years as a professor in the early childhood education program at Algonquin College. Her career in early childhood education was interrupted on three occasions when she worked as a consultant or administrator for organizations affiliated with change in the Ontario postsecondary sector. These experiences broadened her understanding of the influence of the early years on later learning success and deepened her commitment to high quality early childhood education as essential preparation for life. Dale believes that the new paradigm for early childhood education in Canada should blend constructivist educational theories with the culturally diverse values and early learning priorities that permeate our society and develop a made-in-Canada model that works best for our nation.

Ransom spent twenty-five years inspecting remains of mines (seventy-five are described and located), furnaces and forges, dams and millraces, and other ruins closely associated with iron production in the Ramapo region. But not all was on-site research. He also searched through old account books, newspapers, and records, evaluating their historical importance. When word spread of his intense interest in the field, he was offered material unknown to historians―in particular, a collection of old ledgers, some dating back two hundred years, and a group of rare photographs from 1865 to 1905. From such extensive investigation, Ransom uncovered previously unknown facts, filled in gaps, and corrected mistakes made by earlier writers on the subject.

Classic Book of the Iron Mines in NJ and NY

I had heard about this book that was published originally in 1966 and just reprinted in 2011. I couldn't find a copy of the original and was delighted to see it in reprint.

Having grown up in the Ringwood mine area in the 1950's, I appreciate this book as a great historical reference of this particular area and the larger iron mining community.

I just got the book yesterday but I was immediately taken of the account of the large iron chain still displayed outside at Ringwood Manor House. When I was growing up it was still referenced as part of the chain stretched across the Hudson River during the Revolutionary War. Read this well documented account of this piece of chain's acquisition in 1887 and decide for yourself.

Bottom line............... buy this book.

Ringwood was a great place to live

I had the original hardcover of this book, and gave it to our daughter. We also gave her all the newspaper articles that were used in the book. You see, We lived in Ringwood, NJ, where much of this book is written about, for over 20 years. We raised two girls there, who call the area "home". I re-bought the book, because I wanted to have one of my own. There is a lot of political activity, now, about our historical past, as there always has been. However, here is a book, written about an area that we lived in and knew. We knew many of the people and families written about in the book. We walked and drove around the mines. I picked up some pieces of iron ore, right off the ground. Ringwood was a great place to live, and a great place to have known its historical roots. Now, when I get "homesick", I can pick up the book and "go back in time", so to speak. Great book. Loads of history about the Revolutionary War period...that the iron ore used to make the famous "chain across the Hudson" actually came from these mines, among other historical constructions. I wish the mines had somehow, been maintained....at least, their entrances, but "that's progress", as they call it.

Great read

Very interesting read on a neglected subject---iron mining and refining in northern New Jersey. Fans of Clinton Road mysteries should enjoy the straight history given here.
